- Check at least three references.
- Never pay in full - until the job is completed to your satisfaction.
- Check to see that the contractor is insured.
- Always review "a portfolio" of the contractors' work.
- Get multiple bids from multiple contractors.
- Get a signed contract with an estimated completion date.
- Check how the contract handles "unforeseen I hidden costs". At times when bidding a job, subfloor deficiencies cannot be determined until after some demo work has started. Check to see how these additional costs' are to be billed.
