As a professional wedding photographer, Janelle Elise Milner has a keen eye for beauty. To realize the vision for her and her husband’s dream home, she turned to celebrated Minnesota designer Kelli Fontana and the team at West Bay Homes. Nestled in a cozy Minneapolis suburb, the new build—dubbed “The Eden Project”—is a luxurious sanctuary for the Twin Cities power couple. Every room offers a sensuous escape, blending lush neutrals and rich natural materials with surprising details that infuse the home with everyday elegance and singular style.

Comparing her process to an artist compiling an album, Kelli Fontana ensures that each unique space remains in conversation with the home as a whole. Featuring exquisite tile throughout, The Eden Project is a masterclass in home design. Read on to tour these picture-perfect spaces and discover the curated choices that brought the dream home to life.

A Pantry Prepped for Perfection

Off the main kitchen (shown in the above photo), the pantry offers a private space that works as hard in the style department as it does for food prep. Continuing the warm, neutral palette of its culinary counterpart—notably the white-beige marble backsplash and blonde wood cabinets—the pantry features cream-colored shelving and Nuovo Riad Bianco and Nuovo Riad Creme wall tile in a freestyle checkerboard-inspired design.

While the tile arrangement feels delightfully spontaneous, this sense of ease required careful planning. The installer meticulously mapped out a 60/40 mix of Bianco (white) and Creme (beige), numbering each shade variation in the handmade-look tile to ensure a precise distribution of color. The thoughtful execution achieves tonal harmony within an ostensibly random layout.

This chic design extends past the upper cabinets all the way to the ceiling, amplifying the height of the hardworking space. The soft tones and glossy finish reflect natural light, filling the room with warmth. It’s almost a shame to hide such a stunning space behind its cleverly concealed pocket door!

This gorgeous pantry features white and beige handmade-look square wall tile in a seemingly random layout.

Elegant & Enchanting: The Twin Stars Bath

On the upper level, the Jack-and-Jill bathroom connects the guest bedroom and playroom and is designed specifically for visiting nieces and nephews. Bursting with personality, this space makes it hard to pinpoint a single “star.” Is it the whimsical, woodsy wallpaper or the charming Kit-Kat Forest tile showcased on the sink backsplash? Perhaps, as they complement each other so wonderfully, they are twin stars—the Jack and Jill, if you will—of this delightful room, providing the perfect balance of playfulness and sophistication.

A beautiful bathroom vanity featuring long, thin rectangular green handmade-look mosaic tile backsplash. A forest scene wallpaper is reflected in the mirror.

Through the glass-walled shower, we can see that the gorgeous, undulating green tones of the handmade-look mosaic tile are carried across the room. Creating a sense of organic movement, the tile’s rich shade variation evokes hand-drawn lines—reminiscent of a neatly colored page in a sketchbook, but with precision alignment that lends stylish finesse. A fine DURAL Plus Gold 24K pencil liner outlines the shower niche and the edge of the bench—a refined detail that elevates the space, while maintaining its playful nature.

On the floor, the USA-made Moonstone Off White tile, in 12″ x 24″ large format (main bathroom) and Picket (shower), grounds the space in muted off-white tones. This stone-look porcelain features subtle movement through delicate white veining, while the white grout highlights the shower mosaic’s elongated hex shape and provides essential traction.

A Laundry Room Awash In Luxury

Lovely enough to make you look forward to laundry, the Alison Victoria Malibu Edit Matador tile (also available in Pointe Dume [blue] and Pescador [white]) transforms this utilitarian space into a standout design moment. The marble mosaic’s vibrant veining and vivid tones continue the upper level’s organic green-and-wood theme, though its distinct, rounded shape offers a beautiful contrast to the linear tiles showcased in the previous room.

When she originally fell in love with this tile in the showroom, Janelle saw it oriented with the wider portion at the bottom. While Kelli confirmed that the tile would look beautiful either way, they ultimately decided to install it wide-end-up to draw the eye toward the ceiling and create a sense of upward movement. The choice of a dark grout enhances the sense of drama and highlights the stone’s natural features (though, if you want to emphasise the unique shape, you could use a white grout).

Let this be a reminder not to overlook these “workhorse” spaces. Though they aren’t always guest-facing, bringing beauty into the rooms where you spend time on everyday tasks makes every day a little more joyful.

This laundry area features an opulent green marble mosaic backsplash in a unique scalloped shape.

Only the Best for the Guests

It is a testament to Janelle’s hospitality that she chose her favorite tile for her guest bathroom. Showcasing our best-selling Coco Canvas glossy tile (also available in matte), this sumptuously tranquil space proves that you can create an exquisitely invigorating tableau with a limited neutral palette.

The handmade-look subway tile features lush shade variation, with undulating beige tones that infuse the walls with an exhilarating sense of movement. Installed in a vertical offset, the layout enhances the shower’s height and the tile’s tonal shifts. While Janelle and Kelli originally considered tiling the entire wall, they ultimately decided on a half-wall in the main area to add visual variety. This resulting horizontal line makes the space feel wider, while the solid cream-painted wall above provides a visual reprieve, allowing the tile to remain the true focal point.

White groutlines pull out the tile’s crispest tones and create a visual throughline to the tub and white countertop. To ground the room, neutral medium-brown wood cabinets and accessories echo the beige variations in the stone. Finally, gold fixtures introduce a warm metallic note that—much like the glossy tile—reflects the light to brighten the space. This mix of warm and cool neutrals results in a chic, contemporary design with timeless appeal.

This lush beige bathroom features handmade-look subway wall tile and a creamy white marble herringbone mosaic floor tile.

On the floor, Arctic White Large Herringbone mosaic tile zigzags across the room. The creamy white marble features minimal shade variation, though its nuanced veining adds subtle movement. The small-format mosaic provides plenty of grout lines for essential traction, making it as safe as it is beautiful. While the main floor uses the larger herringbone, the shower floor utilizes the Arctic White Small Herringbone, creating a minute visual distinction between the two spaces. Installed with a complementary grout, the floor is elegantly unassuming, yet abundant in natural detail.

The Primary Suite: Universal Design, Effortless Style

For her primary bath, Janelle wanted a peaceful retreat to start her mornings with intention and unwind after a long day. This bathroom is a masterclass in universal design—full of smart choices that ensure the space remains as functional as it is beautiful for years to come.

Large format, marble-look porcelain tile paves the walls and bathroom floor, offering a luxurious aesthetic that is easy to maintain. Minimal grout lines make the large space feel even more expansive. The polished Simona White wall tile offers a smooth, slightly reflective surface that brightens the shower, while the matte Livingstone Bianco floor tile provides necessary slip resistance. Inside the shower, the coordinating Livingstone Bianco mosaic (also matte) adds even more grip through a dense web of grout lines. The curbless, walk-in shower is wide enough to accommodate mobility aids if needed, and adjustable showerheads make the bathing experience effortless.

These clever features don’t sacrifice an ounce of style. The crisp white stone-look tiles, with their cool grey and warm taupe veining, create a pleasing, contemporary palette. Gold fixtures pop against the creamy white walls, and a band of Hampton Carrara Somerset trim punctuates the design, caping the half-wall and carrying through to the shower. Using trim is an excellent way to incorporate natural stone details, helping any space feel more finished and elevated.

Featuring: Livingstone Bianco, Livingstone Bianco Mosaic, Hampton Carrara Polished Somerset and Simona White.

Powder Room Haute Couture

Fashion-forward and naturally appealing, the main-floor powder room is brimming with lush, natural details. The Kelli Fontana Chain Reaction Black on Black wall tile features interlocking pieces of polished marble against a matte marble background. These polished marble “chains” catch the overhead light, creating a sense of depth within the small space. Inspired by luxury fashion, the tile evokes high-end, tailored elegance. Installed vertically, the floor-to-ceiling tile pairs with an oversized arched mirror and vertical woodgrain to emphasize the home’s soaring ceilings.

The marble countertop adds another layer of visual texture, its dramatic veining offering a fluid contrast to the linear grain of the wood walls. Together, these elements create a unique twist on biophilic design—a style that celebrates the colors and forms of the natural world. Even without traditional botanicals, this space “blooms” through its masterful use of organic materials, textures and shapes.

Featuring: Kelli Fontana Chain Reaction Black on Black.

I think of myself as an artist, and every home as an album—a new version of my design. —Kelli Fontana

Tonally In Tune: A Moody Basement Escape

Drenched in warm brown tones, the basement provides a cozy escape—perfect for unwinding after a long day or for a lively gathering with friends. The focal point of this chic space is the central fireplace, featuring fluted wood-look Violin Decor tile. The tile’s vertical grooves draw the eye upward, emphasizing the room’s height, while the wrap-around installation unifies the space, echoing the light brown tones of the sofa and built-in wooden bar. A sleek line of DURAL Black Matte metal pencil trim outlines the firebox–a subtle detail that adds a layer of elevated sophistication.

Though this space is considerably darker than the airy spaces on the upper floors, the rich neutral tones and natural textures keep it in conversation with the rest of the home. Chocolate brown walls envelop the room in comforting serenity, making the expansive space feel intimate. The honeyed wood and wood-look tile recall the organic details sprinkled throughout the home, while the cream-colored chairs, illuminated by a gorgeous glass chandelier, echo the ivory and cream tones of the bathrooms and pantry.

This luxurious entertaining spaec features a column fireplace surrounded by fluted wood-look tile and plush seating.

The Wellness Hall: A Restorative Final Note

Located off the basement lounge, you’ll find one of the most-used spaces in the house. The wellness hall was designed to accommodate a request from Janelle’s husband for an in-home sauna. Providing the couple a place to relax and reconnect after a long day, the sauna and adjoining changing area feature lavish details that both stimulate and soothe the senses.

Mimicking the look of cut agate, the Riyadh Jade wall tile* fills the space with dramatic movement in warm brown, cool grey, and ivory tones. On the floor, the Queen Beige Cobble marble mosaic tile enhances the spa-like experience with organic natural stone details in a smooth cobblestone design. The intricate web of grout lines provides essential traction, while in-floor heat installed beneath the tile keeps the room warm and toes toasty during frigid Minnesota winters.

Timber Trails lead designer, Julie Howard, is renowned for creating beautiful homes. While her career has focused on designing new construction, in this personal project, Julie leverages her impeccable taste and expertise to transform her historic home, proving that even an existing structure can be molded to fit your personal style and family needs. To update the house, originally built in 1904, Julie incorporated slate, subway tile and marble finishing pieces authentic to early 20th-century style. With surprises around every corner, this comfortable family home exudes charm and character.

All designs are by Julie Howard for Timber Trails Development Company. All photography is by John and Maura Stoffer.

I’d never seen subway tile floor-to-ceiling on all four walls before–I had to have it!

Classic Kitchen Made Modern

A puzzle featuring a historic Christmas dinner scene inspired the floor-to-ceiling white subway tile design in this classically detailed kitchen. The tile design is unique yet still in keeping with the 1900s aesthetic, while the open floor plan makes it conducive to modern living. Julie chose the Lansdale Carrara marble subway tile for an elevated take on a timeless design. The subdued beige and grey coloring perfectly complements the cream-colored cabinets. The affordable price point–just $14.59 per sq. ft.–allowed her to use this tile more extensively.

Featuring: Lansdale Carrara

Warm & Inviting Sunroom

Sleek Adoni Black slate floor tile adds depth to this bright sunroom. In addition to hiding dirt and providing traction for wet feet (this room serves as an entrance from the outdoor pool), the rich, dark natural stone contrasts beautifully with the ivory walls, ceiling and furniture. The floor tile’s subtle veining and stylish herringbone layout feel authentic to the space, which features striking architectural details–note the stone lion’s head in the built-in fountain.

Featuring: Adoni Black.

I love the size of the Noir 3″ x 6″ tile–nice and small, just like the space!

Crisp & Clean Mudroom

Noir slate subway tile graces the floor of this sun-drenched mudroom. The brick-lay pattern complements the home’s sophisticated character, while the natural stone’s texture and veining add an organic touch, enhancing the space’s warm, earthy feel.

Featuring: Noir Subway and Noir Threshold.

Finely Detailed Black & White Bathroom

Here, as in the other main bathrooms, Julie showcases her expertise through masterful trim work. The pairing of ceramic white subway tile with Black Marquina marble trim creates a deceptively simple design. Thin lines of Black Marquina Somerset trim run along the edges of the shower doorway and across the top and bottom of the wall, providing subtle, elegant framing, while black grout further enhances the visual contrast. We love how Julie balances the tonal values of the space with the penny-round tile floor, where the white border and grout joints create an inverse effect of the wall design.

Featuring: Black Marquina, Black Marquina Somerset, Penny Round Matte White, Penny Round Matte Black, Black Marquina Curb, Black Marquina Skirting and Imperial Bianco Gloss

Similar materials, when used with different grout colors, can create drastically different looks.

A Teenager’s Chic, Cool-Toned Bathroom

Proving that great design is in the details, this lovely bathroom features the same white ceramic subway tile as the previous one, but pairs it with Hampton Carrara marble for a completely different aesthetic. The stylish, expressive grey marble is showcased in the Cornice chair rail, the window framing, the shower niche and the hexagon tile floor. Whisper grey grout is used throughout, enhancing the natural tones of the marble and creating soft lines in the brick-lay subway tile, while still providing contrast.

This elegant bathroom features white subway tile walls and grey marble trim and hex-shaped tile floor.

Featuring: Hampton Carrara Capital, Hampton Carrara Cronice, Hampton Carrara Hex, Hampton Carrara Skirting, Imperial Bianco Gloss and Hampton Carrara Subway.

Timelessly Elegant Marble Bathroom

This fashionable bathroom exudes vintage charm. The Hampton Carrara subway tile features subtle beige and grey veining, creating a contemporary color palette of both cool and warm neutrals. The Black Marquina Barnes and Somerset trim pieces provide a striking transition from the tile to the painted wall. The blush paint feels fresh, while evoking a sense of a bygone era. The mix of feminine colors and details (note the gold hardware and gossamer curtains) with solid black trim pieces and cabinets creates the signature bold elegance that makes Julie’s designs so appealing.

Featuring: Black Marquina Barnes, Hampton Carrara, Hampton Carrara Cornice, Black Marquina Curb, Hampton Niles Mosaic, Hampton Carrara Skirting and Hampton Carrara Subway.

Living Room

The fireplace is the focal point of this bright and open living room. The Noir Honed limestone tile with its subtle silver veining creates a stunning harth with lots of visual texture. The dark fireplace against the white wall creates a solid base, which is balanced by the large abstract painting above.

Kitchen

In a house dubbed Chef’s Delight, you know the kitchen is going to be the star. Of course, the delight of this house is that it boasts not one but two kitchens with gorgeous tile choices in both. The primary kitchen features the Antique Mirror Bevel Glass tile above the stove. This reflective tile adds depth and shine to the room and complements the linear forms of the hood.

Scullery Kitchen

This second kitchen, or scullery kitchen, features more brilliant design choices. The Noir Honed tile (which we saw earlier on the fireplace) is paired with the Silver Mist honed limestone tile for a sophisticated checkerboard pattern. As Julie explained in the video, the linear veining on this tile creates a pattern within a pattern, but the Silver Mist tile is installed in alternating diagonals to maintain a sense of order and flow.

Featuring: Noir Honed, Silver Mist Honed and Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder.

The Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria Powder blends blue and grey tones for an elegant backsplash that complements both the dark grey walls and grey and black floor tiles. Though the obvious choice for this backsplash might have been to use the same limestone tile as the floor, we’re glad Julie took a risk on this unexpected tile choice. The blue-grey elongated subway tile creates a beautiful transition between the white cabinets and granite countertops.

Bar

This gorgeous bar area is perfect for entertaining. The Look Avio handmade-look tile features variations in its blue-green coloring for a natural sense of movement. While handmade tiles often feature uneven edges, these handmade-look tiles have more uniformity, allowing for the neat straight lines accentuated by the white grout. The result is a highly designed look that creates order without being overly homogeneous.

Primary Bathroom

Nothing is more luxurious than marble, and this primary bathroom uses the Firenze Carrara to optimal effect, creating a clean, classic space. The herringbone pattern adds interest in the floor while maintaining the elegance of the room and the marble’s grey veining pairs nicely with the wooden cabinets and intricate, antique rug.

Laundry Room

Don’t you long to linger between loads in this lovely and inviting laundry room? The floral motif of the Elaizig Hex tile adds sophisticated whimsy to this room. We love how the bee prints above the sink tie in both thematically and aesthetically with the floral-inspired patterned tile.

Jack and Jill Bathroom

The custom tile design created with the Black and White Quarter Round tile is an unexpected moment that adds character to this charming Jack and Jill bathroom. The simple color palette gives this room depth while allowing the floor tile to claim the focal point of the space.

Kids’ Bathroom

The Imperial Black Matte Rhombus tile used in this charming kids’ bathroom proves that you can have fun in black and white. The shape is simple, yet playful–perfect for children–but can easily age as kids grow. With the right accessories, this room is suitable for young kids all the way up to teenagers and young adults.

The white grout line crossing through the Splendours Blue Night shower tile is an inverse to the white and blue wallpaper (find more shower tile on our website). While the more uniform Glass Nautical Blue backsplash creates a block of color that is strong without detracting from the rest of the room.

The subtle sheen of the Ionic White floor tile provides a sturdy, unassuming base to the patterns that play throughout the room.

Guest Bathroom

What guest wouldn’t feel at home stepping into this gorgeous shower? The Bulevar White ceramic tile has a subtle wavy texture that soothes the senses. The clean white tile also provides a gentle buffer between the bold patterned wallpaper and the marvelous McQueen Grey stone mosaic tile accent.

Guest Bathroom

The Legno limestone tile mimics the look of woodgrain to create an organic texture that is also durable. A warm grey palette and linear veining complement the textured accents in the cabinets and wall sconces. Read our post for even more luxurious bathroom design ideas.

Bar

The focal point of the home is this stunning bar. At once contemporary and reminiscent of retro glamor, the Antique Mirror Bevel tile and gorgeous gold and glass hanging lights are captivating without being obtrusive, making this the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail with friends.

Laundry Room

Laundry is less of a chore in this beautifully designed room with its fresh, clean aesthetic. The soft blue and white color palette lend a calmness to this space. The solid, simple coloring of the walls and cabinetry bring a balance that allow for more interest in the floor tile, Decora Ornament Blue, which brings a sophisticated charm to the room.

Pool Bathroom

The Art Nouveau-inspired design on the Decora Redondo cement-look wall tile lend a classic elegance to this pool bathroom. The grey shapes perfectly balance the blue coral and candle used to accent the sink area, giving the room a subtle aquatic feel.

Sitting among a glamorous gathering of pastel pink homes in the illustrious Marrakesh Country Club community of Palm Springs, California, is a particularly grand residence. The second mid-century modern house owned by Annie Selke, acclaimed designer and founder of The Annie Selke Companies, the home is an icon within the neighborhood designed by Hollywood Regency architect John Elgin Woolfe. Drenched in sunlight with playful hues dancing from room to room, this chic oasis showcases Selke’s iconic color-forward style while paying homage to the serenity of the surrounding desert vista.

Selke recently completed a major renovation on the three-bedroom, three-bathroom home, and we couldn’t be more excited to share some of the gorgeous interior and exterior spaces with you!

Front Entrance

The grand entrance makes a statement with a posh tiled fountain and brushed marble flooring that continues throughout the house. The luxurious Arctic White stone displays soft ivory coloring that effortlessly pulls out the warm, inviting tones in the exterior’s eye-catching pink walls.

A burst of stunning turquoise hues brings a fresh and invigorating feel to the space through our Glass Tropical Harbor Blend Hex mosaic. The hexagon-shaped glass tiles bounce light from surface to surface, drawing the eye into the crystal clear water.

Selke’s striking backsplash features tile from her exclusive Tile Shop collection. The ceramic tile commands attention with mirrored metallic gold splatters overlaying a cowhide-look textured surface. The gold accents glitter throughout the kitchen, reflecting the space’s sunny natural light for a true show-stopping moment. (Note: This specific style is no longer available. Office Bathroom

Selke’s office bathroom offers a slightly more sophisticated appearance with textile-inspired wall tile. Through the layering of different colored glazes on top of one another, this ceramic wall tile mimics the appearance of a luxe metal-infused fabric. Combined with a creamy beige hue and a light-reflecting shimmer, this tile brings an extra glam feel to the shower.

Matching the primary bathroom, this shower continues the use of the spa-like White, Grey & Black Pebbles Small tile for a floor that anchors the space and balances the textured walls.

Back Patio

Last, but certainly not least, is the home’s swanky back patio, adorned with charming old-Hollywood style furniture and one final appearance of the brushed Arctic White marble. Get ready to take a step inside Varsity Blues – one of the recent projects completed by Timber Trails Development Company. Join Julie Howard, Timber Trails’ lead designer, as she walks through the beautiful home while sharing her inspiration and design choices behind each space. Featuring charming pops of pattern and lovely blue hues throughout, it’s truly one-of-a-kind.

To get a closer look at some of our favorite spaces in Varsity Blues, keep scrolling!

Family Room

As Julie explained, our Laura Ashley Wicker Sea Spray tile was the inspiration for the home’s entire color palette. We love the way it ties this family room together as a timeless focal point.

Kitchen

Offering the atmosphere of a whimsical English cottage, this kitchen is both classic and cozy. The rich blue cabinetry makes an eye-catching statement, while the handmade-look Retro Lino backsplash creates balance and adds soft, artisanal character.

It’s all in the details! By placing white and grey square tiles in a traditional checkerboard layout, Julie brought understated elegance to this sweet and simple space.

Mudroom

Laura Ashely Wicker Sea Spray makes its second appearance in Varsity Blues as the home’s mudroom flooring. It offers gorgeous contrast against the warm brown details and crisp white walls.

Primary Bathroom

Featuring our Siberian Pearl marble, the primary bathroom is a true show-stopper. With refined wall paneling, gold hardware, and a boldly painted ceiling, we are swooning over every inch of Julie’s design.

Laid in an elegant herringbone pattern, the Siberian Pearl brushed marble brings an elevated, timeless feel to this space while creating incredible interest and dimension.

We love the Siberian Pearl marble because it has so many natural tones running through it.

-Julie Howard

We can’t forget about this breathtaking shower! Complete with coordinating trim pieces and a striking hex mosaic from the Siberian Pearl collection, its opulence is unmatched.

Jack & Jill Bathroom

As charming as it is functional, the Jack & Jill bathroom maintains a cool-toned palette with the Bulevard Whisper Gray tiled shower surround and Meram Blanc Carrara Polished Hex flooring. Soft veining throughout each marble hex plays effortlessly with the gentle waves of texture in the Bulevard Whisper Gray tile, creating just the right amount of movement.

Guest Bathrooms

The perfect place to play with pattern, Julie brought the home’s guest bathrooms to life with two unique, yet complementary designs. The first bathroom features a more sophisticated style with a cement-look tile floor. Pulling out the rich blue tones from the tile’s Victorian-inspired pattern, the slate blue subway tile makes for an excellent shower surround.

These tiles are no longer available. Shop patterned tile and subway tile to find similar looks. Design by Timber Trails. Photography by Stoffer Photography Interiors.

The second guest bathroom showcases a slightly playful aesthetic with the patterned hexagon, which imitates the appearance of an inkblot. Similar to the Jack and Jill bathroom, Julie used the Bulevard Whisper Gray tile for the shower surround, while adding a luxurious final touch with the Arctic White Brushed Marble Hex on the shower’s floor.

Get ready to swoon over this gorgeous Miami waterfront mansion designed by one of our amazing partners, Bria Hammel of Bria Hammel Interiors. At nearly 7,500 sq. ft., it boasts massive windows, tropical greenery, and a light-and-airy color palette.

While Miami’s architecture typically leans modern-Mediterranean, the homeowners wanted something a little more traditional, resulting in a stunning blend of the two design styles.

All photography by Spacecrafting.

Kitchen & Dining Room

A host’s dream, the kitchen features crisp white cabinetry, quartz countertops, and antique-style chandeliers. Oh, and we can’t forget the focal point – a stunning black range hood with lavish gold accents.

French doors throughout the home lead to the picturesque backyard, which sits on an aqua-blue canal. Keep scrolling to see the incredible view (and the massive swimming pool)!

Living Room

Lofty ceilings bring an especially grand feel to the living area, with large built-in bookcases and a stunning leather-strapped chandelier.

Vintage decor mixes effortlessly with modern furniture in this space, reflecting a truly elegant, one-of-a-kind design style.

Guest Bathrooms

We love the simple elegance of this guest bathroom. The neutral color palette, gold hardware, and wooden vanity lend themselves to the homeowners’ more traditional style, and we are obsessed!

Featured: Mallorca White.

Mallorca White subway tile brings some artisan charm to the space with a pearlescent sheen and unique texture that creates a handmade look and feel.

We definitely see more of the modern Miami style in this bathroom, with a glamorous marble shower and dark accents. Maintaining a neutral color scheme throughout the space allows for a fun mix of patterns and materials that doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Featuring: Double Chevron with Cinderella Grey, Hampton Carrara Hex Marble Mosaic, Hampton Carrara Polished Marble 4x12in and 12x24in, and Hampton Carrara Polished Durand Marble Trim.

Home Office

While the rest of the house features a lighter color palette, the home office goes bold with a deep navy on both the walls and ceiling for a moodier atmosphere.

We’ll take this space for our next Zoom meeting any day!

Powder Bath

Simple and serene, the powder bath includes a customized mirror, wood-carved fluted vanity, and a vintage-style lighting fixture.

Primary Bathroom

Maybe the most striking part of this home is the spa-like primary bath. With Firenze Carrara Honed Marble from top to bottom, it boasts luxury and lavishness.

A custom chandelier hanging above the freestanding tub adds a stunning point of contrast against the otherwise bright and light-filled room.

We are constantly blown away with the amazing designers and builders that we work with. One that we have loved following along with is Russo Residential of Denver, CO. Their attention to detail and cutting-edge design sets their custom homes apart. We sat down with Russo Residential’s Design Consultant, Rosie Russo to chat about their Cream Puff House.

Coined the Cream Puff house because of its creamy exterior color, this home has a facade nothing short of spectacular.

All photography by Spacekraft Media.

When designing this home, Rosie was inspired by an ultra-glam black and gold color palette, synonymous with The Great Gatsby. However, she wanted to add a contemporary and fresh feel to it.

When establishing a design I always ask my clients how they want to ‘feel’ in their house; what type of vibe they want. – Rosie

“Almost all of the tile in this home was either black or white. It gave a very clean look to the space.”

A Grand Entrance

Soaring ceilings and gorgeous windows create an open-concept living space full of natural light.

Featured: Metropolis Black Matte Porcelain.

When working on a project do you go room by room or do you approach the house as a whole?

“I always start with the owner’s bathroom and then go from there. At the end, I circle back to the owner’s bathroom because after walking all the aisles of tile, we end up changing tile because there is so many to choose from. Typically, we choose the backsplash last because it is usually a pretty simple choice.”

I find inspiration everywhere. Often it is a specific piece like a unique tile or furniture piece that the design is created around. – Rosie

Left space: art-deco basement stairs. Right space: mudroom.

Powder Bath

Sticking with the black and white color palette but adding in a gorgeous neutral shade of green, this powder bathroom lets the details shine.

Featured: Color Market Army and Calacutta Bianco Gloss Porcelain.

I felt like it was all simple enough that other things could be featured like lighting, while still having its own hidden beauty. Most of the tiles have this gorgeous texture that you can’t always see until you’re looking at it up-close. I liked that its beauty isn’t in your face. – Rosie

Featured: Color Market Army.

This Color Market tile in Army features a matte finish and subtle texture in a deep green hue. Laying it in a horizontal straight stack adds a contemporary feel to the classic subway tile shape.

Laundry Room

This home features gorgeous contrast. Black and white details play off of natural wood accents throughout each space.

Featured: Metropolis Black Matte Porcelain.

What is your go-to design tip?

“With our clients, because we’re building from the ground up, I always tell them to try not to get ahead of themselves in the design process. Focus on what’s in front of you and what you’ve done. Build on the design from there.”

Kitchen

Featured: Glass White Subway.

Following the theme of the rest of the house, this kitchen is as grand as it gets. Complete with cabinetry and backsplash all the way to the ceiling (11 feet to be exact!) and art-deco pendant lighting, this space achieves the glam factor Rosie set out to create.

Featured: Glass White Subway.

Every last detail was perfectly executed. We’re swooning over the oversized cabinet hardware and stunning black and gold La Cornue range.

Owner’s Bath

Similar: Marble Look tiles.

When asked which tile was Rosie’s favorite, she immediately said the oversized tile in the owner’s bathroom without hesitation. Originally her plan was to do large slabs of marble behind the vanity, but after realizing the cost of doing that, decided to go with a large-format marble look tile.

Similar: Marble Look tiles.

“We were really happy with the oversized look of the tile and how seamless it came out behind the vanity.”

Large-format tiles create an expensive look while being budget-friendly. Learn more about how to maximize your space with large-format tiles here.

Full Baths

The tiled spaces in this home never end! There are two, equally beautiful bathrooms that continue the theme of contrast seen throughout the rest of the home.

Featured: Imperial Sand Frame Subway, Annie Selke Ikat Black Porcelain, and Imperial Black Matte Porcelain.

When choosing tile it depends on how you are using it. It might be the focal point of the space or it might be more simple to let something else stand out. – Rosie

Featured: Atlanta White Porcelain and Uroko Black Ceramic.

Following elements seen throughout the house, this bathroom features a marble-look large format tile and a 3-D statement tile. This space is nothing if not bold and glam… Can we talk about that oversized mirror?

Featured: Atlanta White Porcelain and Uroko Black Ceramic.

Fireplaces

This home features three contemporary fireplaces that instantly demand attention with their bold and dimensional design features. Each one has a very simple design but the design is what makes these fireplaces true focal points.

Right: Metropolis Black Matte Porcelain.

Tiling the fireplaces to the ceiling adds drama while also emphasizing the height of the space. The 3-D texture of the tile emphasizes shadows and lights creating a sleek, contemporary look.

Featured: Diamante Negro Matte Ceramic.

The 3-D texture of the Mar Quartzo and Diamante tiles add a sculptural design element that plays off of shadows and light to bring depth and dimension to the space.

Left: Mar Quartzo AC Ceramic. Right: Diamante Negro Matte Ceramic.

Basement Bar

To Rosie, every home should have a space for entertaining and hosting. This basement bar is the perfect spot!

Featured: Tear 3 Prata Ceramic and Tear 1 Prata Ceramic.

What is your favorite space in this home?

“My favorite space is probably the basement bar area because of the tile — the tile is what really made it. There are small details on the tile, but we were able to mix and match the tiles to create the design exactly how we wanted it and I love how it turned out.”

Left: Baltimore Beige. Right: Tear 3 Prata Ceramic and Tear 1 Prata Ceramic.

Rosie created a one-of-a-kind design with the Tear Collection. Available in four different patterns featuring intersecting silver metallic lines that emulate woven fabric, mix and match to add a touch of glam to any space.
